Care for Newcomer Children (CNC)

Care for Newcomer Children (CNC)

The CNC program is organized into four age groups: infants (6-18 months), toddlers (19-30 months), preschoolers (30 months – 6 years), and a school-age group (6+). The program’s main goal is to enhance children’s social and academic skills, creativity, and language abilities. Our skilled staff assists children in building self-confidence, forming friendships, and enjoying everyday activities. While parents learn English and other skills in their classes, their children engage in scheduled activities like arts, and crafts, circle time, free play, and sensory play. The CNC program plays a pivotal role in supporting the LINC program. On average, over 70% of our LINC clients are women, many of whom are young mothers with children under 4 years old. The CNC Program enables these women to attend LINC classes by providing care for their children. Without CNC, these newcomer women would struggle to improve their language skills and develop other competencies required for life in their new country, hindering their ability to contribute to the community. Our children participate in the CNC program for three hours a day, five days a week. The program’s activities are tailored to children’s interests, with monthly plans that may be adjusted weekly. Objectives are set at the beginning of each month, and activities are designed to target various areas such as sensory development, gross motor skills, language acquisition, and social/emotional growth. We aim to assess outcomes and make necessary changes to continually enhance the program.
