Our Family Support Program provides counselling and referrals to individuals and families who seek guidance and direction. Our counsellors are non-judgmental and culturally sensitive. They offer support and information and can put you in touch with an agency, legal or social, that can assist you further. This program provides culturally sensitive and supportive counselling to women who are victims of violence. The aim of the program is to provide education and empowerment to hundreds of women who are living with abuse or have experienced abuse and need to feel safe in order to rebuild their lives.
The program uses the strengths based approach to empower women to take a lead in their life by drawing upon personal strengths, resources of motivation and hope. We work together with clients on mutually agreed goals and continue to focus on building healthy and trusting relationships while maintaining a non-judgmental approach. The program also continues to use the solution focused approach to define clients’ goals and respond to their needs. Through this approach clients’ experiences and stressors are continuously validated and clients’ strengths are used to focus on future goals and their success.

- Transitional Support
- Developing short and long term goals
- Educational support groups for women
- Advocacy and assistance with legal issues
- Referrals to community resources
The Family Counsellor can meet with you over a period of days, weeks or months to assist you in establishing yourself in the community. The counsellor will work with you to determine exactly what types of support you (and your children) need to live with, such as enhanced safety, comfort and dignity.
